On 18 October 2022, the Bill regulating social media and Internet journalism, also known as the "disinformation law", was implemented through the publication in the official gazette of Turkiye. The Bill incorporates Internet news sites in the scope of the Press Law and will make misinformation and false accusations disseminated on social media regarding the country's security and public order, a criminal offence punishable with jail for one year to up to three years. Furthermore, platforms displaying news content will have to keep a record of the posted information for 2 years.
