Introduced Bill regulating social media and Internet journalism

On 26 May 2022, the AK Party and MHP deputies submitted to the Turkish Parliament a Bill proposing to regulate and make criminally punishable the dissemination on social media of misinformation and false accusations that could endanger the country’s security and public order. In particular, the Bill would incorporate internet news sites in the scope of the Press Law and will make misinformation and false accusations disseminated a criminal offence. Furthermore, platforms displaying news content will have to keep a record of the posted information.
