On 13 June 2023, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) of the United States closed the public consultation, which was opened on 15 March 2023, concerning data brokers and other business practices, which include the collection and sale of consumer data. In particular, the CFPB gathered information on topics such as the types of data collected, how it is used and shared, and the potential risks and benefits to consumers. The consultation aimed to inform CFPB and policymakers of the data brokers' practices and the regulation and supervisory powers that can be used to address the harm to consumers that some practices may inflict.
