On 15 March 2023, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) of the United States launched an inquiry and opened a public consultation on data brokers and other business practices involving the collection and sale of consumer information until 13 June 2023. In particular, the CFPB aims to gather information on topics such as the types of data collected, how it is used and shared, and the potential risks and benefits to consumers. The consultation aims to inform CFPB and policymakers of the data brokers' practices and the regulation and supervisory powers that can be used to address the harm to consumers that some practices may inflict.
