United States of America: Adopted Executive Order 24 Banning the Use of Certain Applications and Websites on State Government Technology

On 16 December 2022, the Governor of the State of Virginia signed Executive Order 24, Banning the Use of Certain Applications and Websites on State Government Technology. The Order requires TikTok, WeChat and any other applications developed by ByteDance Limited or Tencent Holdings Limited to be uninstalled and prohibits access to them through the State network. Additionally, any contractors or partners working with the State of Virginia will be required to comply with the Order. The State agencies, their employees and contractors are required to comply with the Order by 31 December 2022.
