Adopted Executive Order 276 Prohibiting Use of Certain Applications or Websites on State Information Technology

On 12 January 2023, the Governor of North Carolina signed Executive Order 276, prohibiting the use of certain applications or websites on state information technology. The banned foreign technologies include TikTok and WeChat. Within 14 days of signing the Order, the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (DIT) and the state's Chief Information Officer (CIO) are required to issue Guidance to State executive agencies requiring the deletion of the above-listed technologies from state devices. Future installation and access to the technologies through state networks will also be blocked.
