Description

Lifted deadline for the registration of responsible parties

The Information Regulator has confirmed that the deadline for the registration of Information officers and Deputy Information Officers has been lifted and no responsible party, meaning any person (individual or entity) that determines the means for and purpose of handling information personal data, will be held liable for not registering said officers by June 30, 2021. This is justified by the presence of technical glitches and will be compensated through alternative means of registration possibilities. The enforcement powers contained in POPIA will however still come into effect from July 1, 2021 onwards which results in the obligation of all responsible parties to be POPIA compliant by June 30, 2021.
