The European Competition Network (ECN) and the 27 hereby involved competition agencies released a paper showing their support for the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The paper also included proposals on how to make the enforcement of the DMA even more effective through increased cooperation between competition law and the DMA. More specifically, the ECN proposes increased cooperation between the DMA and competition law. The ECN states, that the enforcement of the DMA should be improved through more effective use of the know-how and resources that the 27 national agencies have gained on the topic of digital platforms affecting fair and open competition. Therefore, the Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP) should be the primary institution to apply the DMA, followed by possible enforcement through national competition authorities, whereby the general application process is to be defined through increased coordination and cooperation between the different agencies.
