India: Closed consultation on amendments to the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 including new competition rules for e-commerce operators

On21 July 2021, after being opened on 21 June 2021, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution closed its consultation on proposed amendments to the Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules, 2020 after complaints of unfair trade practices in the Indian E-commerce ecosystem. The proposal aims to ensure fair and equal treatment for domestic manufacturers by obligating e-commerces entities to incorporate a filter mechanism to identify product origin and ensure a fair opportunity for domestic goods.
