On 22 November 2022, the European Parliament passed the European Standardisation Regulation (Regulation). The Regulation establishes a framework for the adoption of European standards. The European Commission will be able to require the European Standardisation Organisations to develop standards in line with EU Regulations. Furthermore, the Regulation will enable the participation of representatives of national standardisation bodies in the decision-making processes. Finally, the Regulation will allow for the development of standards to facilitate the digital transition by ensuring that European products and services, such as batteries and artificial intelligence, comply with data protection and cybersecurity rules.
