Announced UK-Japan Digital Partnership including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 7 December 2022, the United Kingdom and Japan announced the launch of a Digital Partnership, including cross-border data transfer regulation. In particular, the countries will cooperate to enable the transfer of data by promoting international transfer instruments and operationalising data free flow based on trust initiatives. Furthermore, the parties will work on developing international standards and collaborate on data innovation, such as Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs), and sharing information on distributed data managing systems.
