Japan: Adopted results of Second Ministerial Japan-UK Digital Council on Cross-Border Data Transfer Regulation

On 16 January 2024, the second Ministerial Japan-UK Digital Council convened, reviewing progress made and outlining the advancements and future initiatives in cross-border data transfer regulation. The collaboration includes advancing the shared vision of Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT), a joint project on data flows for AI development, and discussions on privacy protections and international data governance. The parties also restated their commitments to further ensuring smooth data transfers between both countries under mutual adequacy arrangements.
