Description

Commission launches process towards adoption of the adequacy decision for South Korea

The European Commission started the process for the adoption of the adequacy decision for the transfer of personal data to commercial operators from the Republic of Korea. According to the Commission, the Republic of Korea ensures the protection of private data to a degree which is essentially equivalent to the requirements of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).This is in part due to the revision of the Personal Information Protection Act, which enhances scrutiny in data protection measures. The Commission has thus published its draft adequacy decision and requested the opinion from the European Data Protection Board.
