On 17 November 2022, the Government of Canada launched the Competition Act review and opened a consultation until 27 January 2023. The review's objective is to improve key areas of the competition framework, including the corrective measures and enforcement mechanisms provided in the Competition Act in increasingly digital and data-driven markets. During the consultation, the government aims to gather information on the role and powers of the Competition Bureau, the effectiveness of remedies and private redress mechanisms. Furthermore, stakeholders are invited to submit information regarding data and digital market challenges and comment on whether new sector-specific mechanisms addressing anti-competitive actions should be created for digital markets.
