Investigation announced into Viasat and Inmarsat merger

On 9 August 2022, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced it was opening an investigation into the anticipated acquisition of Inmarsat by Viasat, two of the largest satellite communications companies that supply satellite connectivity to several industries but compete most closely in the supply of in-flight connectivity for aircraft. The CMA will announce the results of its first phase of the investigation and if it will open an in-depth investigation on October 2022.
