German government publishes Draft Works Council Modernization Act outlining requirements for AI use

On 31 March 2021, the German government published the Works Council modernisation Act. The act includes provisions for the use of Artificial Intelligence in an operational context. It provides that the works council can call in an expert to assess the implementation of AI if it is necessary for the fulfilment of its tasks. The works council further has the right to be informed on the planning of work processes and procedures as well as personal selection guidelines if they rely on AI.
