Announced Reserve Bank and DFCRC Research Project on CBDC

On 9 August 2022, the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC) announced the launch of a research project to study the risks and benefits of introducing a central bank digital currency (CBDC). The research project includes a pilot study of the use of CBDC, including related regulatory and technological considerations and a consultation with the industry. The research project is expected to take around one year.
