On 19 May 2022, SB-1018, the Platform Accountability and Transparency Act was amended by the California Senate. Under the amended version of the Bill, social media platforms with at least 1 million unique monthly users are to make public on an annual basis, starting from 1 July 2023 at the latest, statistics regarding content moderation and content policy violations on its platform in the previous 12 months. Specifically, social media platforms would have to disclose the number of violations per category, the platform's actions in response to violations, and the difference in the algorithmic recommendation of the content before and after its identification as violating the terms and conditions.
