Description

Rejected California Bill regarding child user addiction

On 2 August 2022, the California Assembly Bill 2408 "Child users: Addiction" was suspended by the California Senate. The Bill would have introduced liability for social media companies with over USD 100 million in gross revenue regarding addictive features for minors aged 17 or below. The companies could have prevented being held liable by either removing additive features or conducting regular audits to identify and remove such elements. Furthermore, the Bill would have allowed parents to sue social media platforms for up to USD 25'000 USD per violation.
