Russia: Wikipedia fined RUB 5 million for failing to remove remove “false information”

On 26 April 2022, the Magistrate's Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow issued a ruling in the case brought before the Court by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media of Russia, Roskomnadzor against Wikimedia Foundation over its refusal to remove posts classified as ”false” and “illegal” relating to the "special operations" conducted by Russia in Ukraine. The Court imposed a fine of RUB 5 million due to Wikimedia's refusal to delete content classified as “illegal information”.
