Description

FAS issues a warning to Google to terminate actions containing signs of violation of the antimonopoly legislation

On 4 July 2022, the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) released an order directed toward Google demanding the company adjust its payment conditions in Google Play to allow application developers to offer different payment methods other than Google’s payment system. The FAS alleges that Google is abusing its dominant position in the app store market for the Android operating system by imposing a ban on alternative payment systems. Furthermore, the FAS stated that Google's practices negatively affect competition and thereby violate clause 3 of Article 10 of the Law on the Protection of Competition. Google has until 13 August 2022 to implement the required changes.
