Adopted order blocking 118 mobile applications

On 2 September 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) issued an order blocking 118 mobile applications, including WeChat, Ludo World, PUBG and VPN for TikTok. The MEITY noted that the mobile applications stole and transmitted the personal data of Indian users to servers outside the country without prior authorization. Furthermore, the MEITY stated that the data transfer represents a threat to India's sovereignty, integrity and the privacy of its citizens. The MEITY banned the usage of the mobile applications listed in the Appendix of the Order in mobile and non-mobile Internet-enabled devices.
