Announced investigation into Google for abuse of dominant position in data portability

On 14 July 2022, the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) announced the start of an investigation into Google for abuse of its dominant position according to Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The AGCM alleges that Google hindered interoperability in sharing data with other platforms, particularly the Weople App, and compressed the GDPR data portability right. Particularly, the AGCM believes that such behaviour reduces the benefits that consumers can derive from their own data.
