Italy: Closed consultation on Google's commitments in investigation for abuse of dominant position in data portability

Description

Closed consultation on Google's commitments in investigation for abuse of dominant position in data portability

On 21 April 2023, the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) closed its public consultation on Google's commitments with regards to its investigation on alleged abuse of its dominant position, according to Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The AGCM alleges that Google hindered interoperability in sharing data with other platforms, particularly the Weople App, and compressed the GDPR data portability right. Particularly, the AGCM believes that such behaviour reduces the benefits that consumers can derive from their own data.
