On 14 July 2022, the European Commission opened a public consultation on the commitments it has received from Amazon addressing the allegations of non-public data usage, running until 9 September 2022. The Commission in its preliminary view alleged that Amazon is using non-public data collected from competing sellers to favour its products. In order to address the issues raised by the Commission, Amazon stated that it will not use non-public data from sellers using its marketplace for its retail services. The non-public information includes aggregate and individual data on sales, delivery, user behavioural data and sellers’ performance. Furthermore, the company commits to applying this principle to its automated tools and employees working on economic development activities.
