Announced investigation into Google over alleged repeated violation of data localisation requirement

On 27 May 2022, the Russian Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) launched an investigation into Google over the company's alleged repeated violations of personal data protection law, specifically for its non-compliance with the data localisation requirement. The Roskomnadzor noted that entities collecting and processing personal data of Russian citizens are obliged to store it within the country to ensure its security following the implementation of Act No. 152-FZ. Furthermore, the Roskomnadzor noted that Google faces a fine ranging from RUB from 6 million to 18 million.
