Russian court imposes fine on Google for non-compliance with data localisation requirement

On 16 June 2022, the Magistrate's Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow issued a ruling in the case brought before the court by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media of Russia, Roskomnadzor, against Google. The court found Google in violation of article 18 of the Federal Law-152, due to the company’s refusal to store personal data of the Russian users within the country. The court issued a fine of RUB 15 million based on Google's decision not to follow the orders issued by Roskomnadzor.
