Description

Accepted commitments by Insurance Ireland regarding access conditions to data pooling system

On 30 June 2022, the European Commission accepted the commitments by Insurance Ireland and declared them legally binding under EU competition rules. The commitments include enabling fair and non-discriminatory access to the Insurance Link data pooling system. In June 2021, the Commission stated that its preliminary view is that Insurance Ireland willfully delayed or de facto denied access to the data pooling system, in breach of EU antitrust rules. If Insurance Ireland were to breach the commitments, the Commission could fine Insurance Ireland up to 10% of its worldwide turnover without having to prove a breach of EU antitrust rules.
