Description

Prolonged decree blocking TikTok processing of data of users with undefined age

On 11 February 2021, the Italian Data Protection Authority extended the ban on the processing carried out by TikTok of the data of users whose age could not be established with certainty. Under the extension, the restriction will remain in force until 15 March 2021. The reasons for the ruling are TikTok's lack of compliance with the protection of minors, the possibility to circumvent the platform's registration ban for children under 13, the non-transparent information provided to users and the default settings that violate data protection requirements. Because TikTok has established its main EU office in Ireland, the restriction order will be also submitted to the Irish Public Prosecution Service.
