Announced lawsuit against Meta regarding algorithmic discrimination in housing advertising

On 13 August 2018, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) initiated a lawsuit against Facebook (now Meta) for algorithmic discrimination in housing-related advertising. The lawsuit alleges that the algorithm of the housing-related advertising system discriminated against Facebook users based on their race, religion, colour, gender, marital status, disability, and national origin. The lawsuit alleges that this practice is discriminatory advertising that violates the Fair Housing Act (FHA).
