The Personal Data Protection Bill (2019) was introduced to the House (Lok Sabha). It includes a comprehensive data protection regime and measures with regard to content moderation. In particular, social media platforms can - under certain circumstances - be treated as publishers and can be held accountable for the content they host and will have to set up an office in India.
