On 5 April 2022, the Louisiana Consumer Privacy Act (Bill 987) containing data protection measures was introduced in the House of Representatives. The Bill would apply to businesses operating in Louisiana that have at least USD 25 million in annual revenue, process the personal data of more than 100'000 consumers, or derive over 50% of their total revenue from selling personal data while controlling or processing personal data of at least 25’000 local users. The Bill would give individuals rights over their personal data, including the right to access, delete, or opt out of personal data collection. It would also require data controllers to issue privacy notices to consumers informing them of their rights, the extent and purposes of personal data collected, and potential data sharing or sale.
