On 8 June 2022, the Louisiana Consumer Privacy Act was rejected after failing to pass before the legislature session adjourned. The Bill would have applied to businesses operating in Louisiana that have at least USD 25 million in annual revenue, process the personal data of more than 100'000 consumers, or derive over 50% of their total revenue from selling personal data while controlling or processing personal data of at least 25’000 local users. The Bill outlined individual rights including the right to access, delete, or opt out of personal data collection. It would also have required data controllers to issue privacy notices to consumers informing them of their rights, the extent and purposes of personal data collected, and potential data sharing or sale.
