Signed Law No. 374-FZ introducing data localisation requirement

On 6 July 2016, Russian President Putin signed Federal Law #374-FZ (On Amending Federal Law “On Combating Terrorism” And Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation Regarding The Establishment Of Additional Counter-Terrorism Measures And Public Security). The law introduces amendments to several laws, imposing local data storage obligations on internet service and telecommunication providers. Telecommunication providers are required to store message content for six months and metadata of calls and messages for three yearsInternet service providers are required to store user data for one year and user content for six months.
