On 10 March 2022, HB 1850, the Washington Foundational Data Privacy Act, was rejected after failing to pass before the closure of the legislative session. The bill would have given consumers whose personal data are held by a data controller the right to obtain, correct, and delete such data. Further, the Act would have introduced obligations on data controllers and processors to take appropriate measures for secure and transparent processing, such as informing consumers on how their personal data are processed. Also, personal data processing could not have exceeded what was necessary for the stated purposes without first obtaining consent.
