On 10 January 2022, HB 1850, the Washington Foundational Data Privacy Act, was introduced in the Washington State House of Representatives. The draft bill would give consumers whose personal data are held by a data controller the right to obtain, correct, and delete such data. Further, the Act would introduce obligations on data controllers and processors to take appropriate measures for secure and transparent processing, such as informing consumers on how their personal data are processed. Also, personal data processing could not exceed what would be necessary for the stated purposes without first obtaining consent. Consent would also be required for sensitive personal data.
