On 31 March 2026, the Kenya Copyright Board closes the consultation on the draft Copyright and Related Rights Bill, 2026. The draft bill would require online intermediaries, including internet service providers, social media platforms, online marketplaces, search engines, and video sharing platforms, to remove or disable access to infringing content within 48 hours of receiving a valid takedown notice and to notify the person responsible for the content within 24 hours. A counter-notice procedure would allow affected users to contest removal, with the Kenya Copyright Authority required to determine disputes within 7 days. The draft bill would also provide for site-blocking orders, including preemptive injunctions for live events, which the Copyright Disputes Tribunal would be required to decide within 72 hours of application.
