China: Cyberspace Administration of China announced plans to standardise short video content labelling

On 21 March 2026, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) announced plans to guide websites and platforms in standardising the labelling of short video content. The announcement outlines three measures, the standardisation of tags used for such content, including clarification of the categories to be applied, the introduction of content labelling as a mandatory step when posting short videos, and the phased review of existing content, including supplementary labelling. The CAC stated that it will define implementation requirements and timelines, coordinate deployment at the national level, and conduct inspections and evidence collection. It further stated that non-compliant accounts, as well as websites and platforms that do not fulfil their responsibilities, may be subject to enforcement measures, including public disclosure.
