Japan: Japan and Singapore adopted Memorandum of Cooperation on mutual recognition of Internet of Things cybersecurity schemes

Description

Japan and Singapore adopted Memorandum of Cooperation on mutual recognition of Internet of Things cybersecurity schemes

On 18 March 2026, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to mutually recognise their Internet of Things (IoT) cybersecurity labelling schemes. The arrangement applies to manufacturers of smart devices, including home assistants, automation systems, and IoT hubs, allowing products certified under Singapore’s CLS or Japan’s JC-STAR to obtain recognition in the other jurisdiction through a streamlined process. It was stated that the cooperation reduces duplicative certification requirements, facilitates market access, strengthens cybersecurity standards and enhances consumer confidence. The Memorandum will enter into force on 1 June 2026.
