Office of Communications announced a behavioural audit of X and Grok as part of Online Safety Act investigation

On 17 February 2026, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) published a transparency notice announcing a behavioural audit of X and Grok on X, to be conducted in February and March 2026. Ofcom researchers will use Ofcom-managed accounts and devices to access the platform and record observations about its functionalities. The research will be controlled to safeguard researchers and minimise interaction with other users. The audit forms part of Ofcom’s ongoing investigation into X’s compliance with its legal obligations under the Online Safety Act, opened on 12 January 2026.
