On 24 November 2025, the Amendment to the Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission (Bill No. 2214862) was introduced to the National Assembly of South Korea as a committee alternative consolidating five earlier amendment bills. The Bill applies to online platform services and digital content providers overseen by the Broadcasting and Media Communications Review Committee. Under the existing Act, the Review Committee may use written resolutions, including electronic documents, for urgent blocking decisions relating to non-consensual intimate imagery. The Bill would extend this written resolution procedure to eight additional content categories: prohibited narcotics use and trade, prohibited gambling, overseas copyright infringement targeting domestic users, telecommunications financial fraud, suicide-inducing information, organ trade, personal data trade, and firearms or explosives manufacturing methods or designs. The aim is to enable faster blocking decisions across these categories. The Bill would enter into force on the date of promulgation.
