On 30 September 2025, a provision requiring the Office of Communications (Ofcom) to issue data retention notices in specific circumstances in the Data (Use and Access) Act enter into force as provided for in the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2025. The newly effective provision amends the Online Safety Act 2023 to require Ofcom, when notified by a senior coroner in connection with the investigation of the death of a child, to issue notices to online platform providers to ensure the retention of information on the child's use of the platform's services.
