Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission introduced changes under Broadcasting Act to improve accessibility of television and online programming for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted

On 17 December 2025, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) introduced changes under the Broadcasting Act to improve accessibility of television and online programming for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted. Based on the public record of a consultation on accessible content, the CRTC confirmed requirements to increase the availability of described video for new original scripted programmes and audio description for news and information programmes on television and online platforms. The CRTC specified that these requirements will be implemented on a phased basis over the next two years to allow platforms time to adjust while applying the new accessibility obligations.
