Personal Data Protection Committee opened investigation into Worldcoin over alleged unlawful iris-scan data collection

On 17 May 2025, the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) identified a risk in the World project inviting the public to scan irises through the Orb device in exchange for digital tokens. PDPC conducted an onsite inspection to examine the data-collection process and found the hiring of individuals to perform the scanning by Worldcoin.
