Personal Data Protection Committee ordered suspension and deletion of iris-scan records in its investigation into World (formerly Worldcoin)

On 24 November 2025, the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) ordered the suspension and deletion of 1.2 million records collected by World (formerly Worldcoin). Earlier, on 17 May 2025, the PDPC noted risks in the project, which asked people to scan their irises with the Orb device in exchange for digital tokens. An on-site inspection showed that World had hired staff to carry out the iris scans.
