Description

Cyberspace Administration of China published findings of investigation into illegal and irregular online accounts involving veterans

On 12 November 2025, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) published information regarding a number of typical cases handled as part of its investigation into illegal and irregular online accounts involving veterans as part of the “Special Campaign to Rectify Inappropriate Behaviour and Harmful Information Involving Veterans Online.” The investigation directed online platforms to remove or sanction accounts found to have violated regulations by posting vulgar or sexually suggestive content while impersonating veterans, disseminating harmful or misleading statements concerning military service, or using artificial intelligence and deep synthesis technologies to fabricate stories, images, and videos about retired soldiers. Additional cases involved improper marketing and profit-making, such as the unauthorised sale of military uniforms and paid misinformation regarding demobilisation and resettlement services.
