Vietnam: Ministry of Science and Technology closes consultation on amendment to Law on Intellectual Property, including content moderation regulation

On 21 September 2025, the Ministry of Science and Technology closes the consultation on the amendment to the Law on Intellectual Property (IP), including content moderation regulation. The amendment seeks to expand liability for intermediary service providers and managers of e-commerce platforms. The amendments apply to digital platforms and e-commerce businesses that host or facilitate online trade. The provisions deem intermediaries that fail to remove or disable infringing content upon the request of competent authorities as violators of trademark, trade name, and geographical indication rights. It requires e-commerce platform managers to comply with reporting duties, conduct IP rights inspections, and remove infringing goods or services within 24 hours of official notice.
