Attorney General Ken Paxton announced investigation into TP Link over alleged consumer data abuse

On 6 October 2025, the Attorney General of Texas announced an investigation into TP Link, a networking equipment manufacturer, concerning potential risks related to data access by foreign governments. TP Link, founded in Shenzhen, China, is among the largest suppliers of office networking devices in the United States and has established a subsidiary headquartered in California. The Attorney General’s office indicated that the investigation will assess the accuracy of the company’s statements about its corporate independence, as well as its ownership structure and production practices. The inquiry will examine whether TP Link devices contain vulnerabilities that could expose consumer data or network activity, whether the company provided misleading information about its corporate ties, and whether its data handling practices comply with Texas privacy law. This follows a privacy notice violation previously issued to the company earlier in the year.
