Description

Texas Attorney General issued enforcement notice to TP-Link, Alibaba, CapCut, and other Chinese and CCP-affiliated companies under Texas Data Privacy and Security Act

On 6 May 2025, the Texas Office of the Attorney General issued an interim enforcement notice in its investigation into TP-Link, Alibaba, CapCut, and other Chinese and Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-affiliated companies. The investigation concerns alleged non-compliance with the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), which requires companies to disclose whether they process consumer data, allow consumers to opt out of data collection, and enable them to delete their personal data entirely. The Attorney General issued a 30-day compliance notice to the companies and warned that failure to comply would result in legal action.
