Australian Treasury publishes report on results of CDR Strategic Assessment

On 24 January 2022, the Australian Treasury issued a report on the findings of the Consumer Data Right (CDR) Strategic Assessment. The CDR is an initiative within the context of the Digital Economy Strategy, that aims to lay the foundation for a data-driven economy. Notably, the strategic assessment recommends the extension of the scope of application of the CDR to the telecommunications and open finance sectors. If implemented, this extension would enable consumers to have an increased overview and choice for available services and products within these industries. Further recommendations of the report include that the CDR should adopt a data-holder agnostic approach and that the CDR should be active in the area of Digital Identity verification and sharing of credentials.
